How old is it, when was it made, how do I tell?
From the outside this doesn't look to me to be a piece of Parker furniture.
(It vaguely hints at being art deco, but its not even really that.)
But then you open it and the detail on the inside and the obvious craftsmanship says otherwise.
Oh and then there is this!
Is this an early piece maybe?
I would assume that no other company could use the name Parker...Or could they?
What was written in the scratched out bit, the rest of the company's name perhaps?
Or maybe the word "Esque" or "Like " or better still "Not" lol.
I just don't know enough about this stuff and I cant find any information on it anywhere.
So its over to you.
If anyone could educate me on this matter I will love you forever.

I'm stumped! I have a parker sideboard which is a late 60's and the legs, inside glass shelf and draws etc are just like yours (mine's a long one) but the doors etc on yours are a puzzle to me. the front looks late 40's to me (but I'm no expert) it looks like a veneer but mine are solid. Let us know if you find out anything more.

Yes exactly,I know what you mean, its weird isn't it! Yep it is a veneer and to add to the confusion everything under the veneer looks teak. Ill keep you posted. Megan xx
ReplyDeleteHave just discovered your blog and am a new follower! I love your sideboard but have no idea about the details. You could try asking Vampt Vintage Design in Sydney (altho they specialise in Danish mid-century furniture)or perhaps Retro on Regent in Redfern (Tel 0439 760 197) or Two4Retro, also in Redfern (Tel 0412 700 849) both of whom I read about in today's Style Section of the Herald. Good luck! Jane
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for those tips Jane I will definitely try them. Megan xx
