A change of focus

It doesn't take much for me get lost in the world of kitchens, I love the planning stage and get completely immersed in the process, I love the destruction of the old and assembly of the new, we have done 3 kitchens so far ourselves and I adore every step, they are really easy for me because I just love them.

What doesn't happen so easily for me is bathrooms, they kinda scare me, the thought of ripping apart the space and starting again has me in a fluster, where do I start?  what do I need?  what's the order of work for a bathroom?  all these questions are second nature for me when it comes to kitchens, but bathrooms!

Im completely out of my depth and feeling very detached from the whole process, not a fan of this feeling at all.

Unknown?

We are re-doing our bathroom before anything else happens so I need to get my head around it.

The problem with small budget DIY renovation's is that you have to just jump in and do it and learn as you go.
We have to do it ourselves or it just wont get done, we have a sparky and a good plumber but everything else is up to us, the planning, the ordering, the demolishing, the tiling/waterproofing, re plastering  etc etc.. my head is spinning.

I know many of you have done exactly this so if you have any advice for me don't hold back, Id really appreciate it.

So this is me re-focusing, here start's my obsession with bathrooms
(I know... Im all or nothing, its either obsession or complete inaction, there's no in between)

Vanity

This was my first option.
These are what I was actually looking for the day I found the bath.
Ive since changed my mind.

Cute.

Im absolutely having two.
The other half doesn't understand why we need two.
He'll see.
And he'll love it.

Practical storage

Something like this could work
(just not so yellow, iekk)

Pedestals are nice though.

Hmmm.
What to choose.

Shower curtains

I know Im jumping the gun a little but as Im obsessing over my new bathroom I need to know what style of shower curtain Ill be making. I made this one for our current sad excuse for a bathroom because I loved the  Anthropologie ones but it needed to be a half size and besides that Im cheap and impatient so I wasn't forking out dough and waiting for delivery when I could do it myself immediately.

This is our current bathroom.
Teeny tiny and old.
(You cant see it here but the bath is broken in many places and green, ugly green, not cool.)

Im thinking.
Something like this one perhaps!
(Apologies, Ive had this so long I now have no idea of the source, Anyone ?)

Or maybe some vivid colour!

Or simple, perhaps even linen!

My thrifting senses are tingling.

Right or wrong I needed to go to this new demolition yard I found in the local paper, I never know where these ideas come from but Ive learnt to trust them. I needed to find pedestal sinks so I assumed that was what I was going to find. Only I didn't find any pedestal sinks (well I did they just weren't appropriate, Im not ready to put those fabulous pink sinks back into house's yet)  My thrifting senses were still on overload but I wasn't sure why until I spied the biggest treasure of all treasures for my bathroom... The Bath...OMG the Bath, an original 1940s cast iron claw foot in virtually perfect condition. I had given up the search for these years ago, I had resigned myself to the fact that we'd have to either buy a new one ($1200 was the cheapest Id found) or be prepared for the biggest ebay fight of my life and still probably pay too much and travel too far.
A bath was the last thing on my mind but there she was with the more than fair price tag of $500. The Man comes over to see if he can help, we get to talking, he gives me his life story, it turns out he knows my family, we both grew up in the same area, our family's are two of only a hand full left that are (as he likes to call it) true locals (100 years or more, old old school.) "By the way, ignore all the price tags", he says "they're wrong, $250 for you love"...  I always trust my thrifting senses...

It is in excellent condition for it's age.
I have a fair bit of work to do but that's never scared me off.

She was born on the 24. 12. 40  he says as he turns it over just to show me the date stamped underneath.
Cast on Christmas eve!

How cool is this... It even has my initial under the rim...

We'll be painting the underside black.

The Claws. Rusty but solid.

I love the detail on this one.
They'll look great when they're painted.

We also acquired 3 new/old doors.

We currently have those flat characterless hollow doors and have always wanted to change them for solid moulded timber but couldn't justify the expense. We've never found any at a reasonable price even at demolition yards, today was a very different story, my new best friend gave us all 3 for $100.
They need a good clean and a fair bit of work but they're in good solid condition and they will make an enormous difference to the feel of the house.

Bathrooms

It has been years since I raided the Living etc files. Im really liking what im finding there at the moment.
We'll be embarking on a bathroom remodel soon.
We keep putting it off because it is such a massive job.
We only have one bathroom so we'll have to move out for a week or more.

It needs to be a bath with a shower as the space is so tight and of course I want to incorporate vintage finds.
