Can you settle an argument for me?

The table.

The mirrors stays as is, it has a really nice aged peeling effect from being ... well, old..
(you cant see it in this bad photo, sorry for the quality)

But the table...

I say paint it white.
Soft chalky waxy white.
With a new handle.
Possibly glass.
Then the mirror would shine.

The other half says sand and stain or wax (he cant decide)
He wont be actually doing it but he's pretty insistent lol.

I bought it with "Slap some paint on the bargain find " in mind,
and besides that Id have to sand it properly and painstakingly carefully and I utterly detest sanding.
(way too many years of doing it has left me bitter and impatient)

What should I do?
What would you do?

All of the other furniture in this room is white.

Am I resisting the big job just because I hate it even though it would be best.
Have my instincts been 'blinded by the white'

Or is white really the best option?

  1. Its such a cute little table, I think I would be inclined to paint it, how about a chippy aqua or blue colour? Or, yes, white, its hard to know without seeing the rest of the room kind of, what colour are all of your accesories? Too much white can sometimes be a little boring I think... But thats just my own personal opinion - for what its worth!!! Why is it that men arent keen on the whole white paint thing? My husband hates it!! They have no clue sometimes!!!!!
    Have a great day sweetie,

p.s., Just realised you have grey walls! yes, Id go for white!!!

  2. Oh Megan,
I am not going to help matters much by telling you that in this case I actually like the table as is...and think the mirror would look fantastic painted...yaiks..there I said it..sorry.

Of course the table painted white would still look great...but I think if most of your furniture has already been painted white..then this piece might be a lovely piece to break it up. I find that once you start painting everything white..you kind of get addicted..and rightly so ..as it makes everything look so fresh and new.
Im sorry...I know my opinion hasnt helped much....but I know that whatever you end up deciding...it will look fab xo

  3. Hmm, I'm with you Megan, I wouldn't know what to do but I do know I hate sanding too! I'm sure it is going to look spectacular which ever you choose, it is a very lovely table. I like the glass knob idea :)

  4. I don't know if I would paint it as it seems to go so well with the mirror...sorry! Maybe you could put a white table there (can you borrow one?) and see if it looks ok?

    Good luck with your decision!

    Best wishes,
    Natasha.

  6. Well I think I would paint both the table and the mirror white as it would bring them both together really well.
